Harvested from Cedar Lane Vineyard on 10/9, grapes were gently sorted and placed into open top puncheon barrels to natively ferment.  Removing barrel headboards isn’t the easiest thing to do, but offers amazing yet gentle oak integration to a wine at an early age.  The Syrah from Cedar Lane is spicy and benefits from a gentle yet sweet fruit lift from the barrel fermentation.  Once the grapes fermented, they were gently pressed and the wine aged in French oak (don’t worry, we put the headboards back in) for 11 months before bottling.  This savory wine is really an incredible expression of what Syrah can achieve with a coastal climate influence.

Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our boldest wine yet, this smoky, savory flavor bomb is loaded with decadent layers – cured meat and white pepper, blueberry and plum, cedar and sweet tobacco. This wine will shine in 2-3 years- consider keeping it in your cellar to age till then.
Vineyard Notes
Cedar Lane Vineyard
Production Notes
The grapes were hand harvested at dawn on 10/5/17 into 1/2 Ton picking bins. The grapes arrived at Folktale and were sorted before being placed into bins for fermentation. The grapes were hand punched down daily and lightly pressed after the completion of the ferment - lasting 18 days. The wine was placed into French oak barrels (25% new) and aged 11 months before being bottled at the end of the summer, 2018.
