Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
This Pinot is spicy with notes of ripe cassis, juicy raspberry, rich minerality, and a subtle hint of cedar. On the palate, this wine is full and rich with fruity ripeness, lively acid, and deliciously soft tannins. This is a Pinot for Cab drinkers; decadent and complex, with a delicious lingering finish.
Silver Medal, California State Fair 2018
Vineyard Notes
High in the Gabilan Mountains, directly adjacent to Pinnacles National Park, the Chalone AVA is truly unique. Grapes grown here are subject to both the coastal wind and fog from the Monterey Bay, as well as warm summer temperatures in the hills.
Production Notes
Harvest took place early in the morning on 8/23/16, keeping the fruit naturally cool. The grapes were triple sorted and sent to tank to cold soak for 7 days before the fermentation kicked off and lasted 12 days. On 9/9, the wine was drained and the remaining grapes pressed to extract all remaining liquid. The wine went to French Oak barrels 9/12 (12% new) to age for 10 months before being bottled 7/31/17.
Winemaker Notes
